One of our favorite things to do once summer comes along is to drive down to Baltimore for crabs for a quick weekend getaway. I love getting any sort of opportunity to escape the city during the summer, even if it’s just for a day.
Our first stop and favorite place to get crabs is at LP Steamers. We ordered a handful of Jumbo and Medium sized crabs along with old bay fries and onion rings. The weather was hot so we opted to stay indoors with the air conditioner.
After we chowed down on crabs, we went to check into the hotel we were staying overnight in and spent the rest of the afternoon in Alexandria, Virginia. Alexandria has such an old town charm to it, I love stopping by whenever we’re in the area. The main street is lined with restaurants, shops, bars, and ice cream parlors. Our favorite is Pops Old Fashioned Ice Cream!
We walked around the neighborhood, browsed the shops, and took a break along the waterside to cool down. It had to have been the warmest weekend yet having topped just 90-something degrees while we were there. After spending time in Alexandria, we were on the move for more food in Virginia.
Our friend Jeannie introduced us to Banh Cuon Thang Long, a ‘hole-in-the-wall’ Vietnamese restaurant, on our last trip to Baltimore/Virginia and has become another ‘go-to’ spot whenever we’re in the area. They’re popular for their Bun Oc (tomato noodle soup with conch); it’s so comforting and what’s a bummer is that you can’t really get this anywhere else.. or at least no where that we’re aware of! This alone is another reason why I look forward to weekend trips to Baltimore/DC/Virginia area.
The rest of the evening was spent at a cocktail bar back in Baltimore and that basically wraps our day in Baltimore/Virginia! We started the next day with crabs (of course) at Canton Dockside and slowly made our way back home to the city.
