What a treat is was to have been invited to a tea party to celebrate the DVD/Blu-Ray release of Alice Through The Looking Glass! In Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” an all-new spectacular adventure featuring the unforgettable characters from Lewis Carroll’s beloved stories, Alice returns to the whimsical world of Underland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter.
We were treated to tea, coffee, and snacks all while having the opportunity to sit at a round table with the film’s costume designer, Colleen Atwood. Her list of films that she’s worked on is extensive and her designs are so memorable — she’s worked on The Huntman movies, Into The Woods, and Edward Scissor-hands to name a few.
At our round table we were able to really delve into the mind of Colleen Atwood and learn about her inspirations behind the costumes and the techniques that were used. My question was,
Is there one character from the movie that stands out as being the most enjoyable to design?
Well when you get a movie like this they’re all fun because they’re all so different, I mean I love Helena’s costume and her take on the character is so much fun. It was great to get to do her armor, which I really love doing with you know the thorn heart chest piece and the military braid — sort of kind of deconstructed military madness thing that the Red Queen had come up with. Mia’s clothes was great, I mean it was like the first one who I could do the Chinese take on the costume with a really beautiful journey and I got to use embroidery and all kinds of techniques that I haven’t used before on Alice.
Being able to learn just how much planning and how many people it takes for the movie’s costumes was eye-opening! Thanks so much to Disney for having me! Alice Through The Looking Glass is now available on DVD and Blu-Ray!
Till next time.. ♥Mariel
