I acquired a vintage Gucci bag last year that I was attracted to; the crossbody style is one of my favorites and the combination of Supreme canvas and green/red stripe looked classic and not overdone. At this point I wasn’t a fan of Gucci but I had to have this bag. Fast forward to receiving the bag, cleaning it, and refurbishing it I was finally ready to wear the bag out. Since the bag is at least 30 years old, it’s original microfiber lining was shedding and it wasn’t until after wearing the bag out that I realized all the particles that had clung onto whatever I had placed in the bag. I wore it a few more times, thinking that I could just “dust it off” but it became more of a inconvenience.
I thought about removing the lining myself with tips from other purse-lovers and YouTube gurus but that would take patience and work. So I looked into having Gucci replace the lining for a fee. I called a local Gucci to confirm the replacement process and to my surprise the sales associate I was speaking to recommended not going through Gucci. She mentioned that often times people have had to wait 4-6 months for their pieces and instead suggested reaching out to the Leather Spa.
Leather Spa has been reparing leather accessories for over 30 years. They’re able to repair men’s and women’s leather shoes and boots, handbags, wallets, and even clothing. A quick research online and a quote from their website, I was off to drop my handbag. I brought my it to the Saks Fifth Avenue men’s store location in Brookfield Place. They evaluated my bag and its lining and gave me fabric options to replace it with. Microfiber to cotton and in a range of colors. I opted for a black cotten since I was afraid of the microfiber eventually pilling, as the original lining had done. I was told that the purse would be ready in two weeks and that I would receive an email once it was ready.
A few days short of two weeks, I received the email to pick up my handbag! I’m so happy with how the Leather Spa replaced my lining and interior pocket. They even attached the originals tag to the new lining! The original lining was bagged up and included and though I have no attachments to the original lining, I thought that was nice of them.
My first trip to Leather Spa was a success! I now have a place I can go to if I have any future issues with my handbags or footwear.
