It’s incredible how beautiful New York can be during the holidays. Almost every inch of the city is decorated with lights and festive holiday decorations. Over the weekend, we went on the *Holidays Lights & Movie Sites On Location Tour, a tour around the city that brings you to all the holiday windows and sights from the movies you love. I’m totally embracing the holidays this season and this was the perfect way to start it off!
The tour met at the Shops at Columbus Circle, which is covered floor to ceiling with holiday decorations, including a a holiday light show every 30 minutes. When we checked in, we were given a VIP coupon booklet that can be used at the shops as you wait for the tour to start. Once the designated time for the tour hit, the group of about 20 people made our way on to the bus!
We made our way up to Lincoln Center and blank for a quick Christmas sighting, rode through Central Park and visiting Bloomingdales and Barneys, drove down Fifth Avenue where more holiday lights could be seen include Saks Fifth Avenue’s light show and the Rockefeller Tree. The tour made a stop at Lord & Taylor (my favorite windows this season) and then our last stop was Macy’s!
We stopped and visited a handful of holiday windows and were free to take pictures and see the sights for about 15 to 20 minutes, which was more than enough time for us. In between the stops, we got to see sights that we were familiar with from movies such as Home Alone, Mr. Popper’s Penguins, Serendipity, Elf and a handful of other New York City based movies. Movie trivia was played as we made our way through the city and were even given cute little gingerbread cookies as takeaways!
It was fun playing tourist in the city! Since moving to the city, I haven’t ever really been able to do the “touristy” things or really see the holiday decorations aside from anything around Rockefeller Center (it’s a tradition on Christmas Eve) and On Location Tours was able to make me feel the holiday magic I’ve always seen in the movies!
